These terms are short. They say what you can expect from the site and what you can do with it. By reading the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
What is this site?
The Generative Brain is an independent, non-commercial site about Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) and other prion diseases. It is written for families, clinicians and researchers. You can read about us on the About page and on Who we are.
The operator of this site is The Generative Brain project. Questions about these terms can go to hello@thegenerativebrain.org.
Is the information medical advice?
No. The site gives general information only. It does not give medical, legal or insurance advice. It cannot interpret your symptoms, test results, family history or risk.
If you are worried about symptoms, please speak to your own doctor. If you are thinking about genetic testing, a genetic counsellor can talk it through with you first. Choosing not to test is a valid choice.
In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.
How accurate is the information?
We try to use reliable sources and we list them. You can read how in Sources and evidence. Each page shows the date it was last checked and whether it has been reviewed.
Prion disease research changes. A page can be out of date even when it was correct on the day we checked it. We cannot promise that every page is complete or free of error. Please check anything that affects a decision with a qualified professional, and tell us if you find a mistake.
What can I do with the content?
You can read it, share a link to it and quote short parts of it with a credit to the site. You may not present the site’s pages as your own, or use them to suggest that we endorse a product, a service or a person.
Text on this site is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. See licence and reuse for what that covers.
What about links to other sites?
Some pages link to other organisations, trial registries and journals. We do not run those sites. We cannot control what they say or how they handle your information. A link is not an endorsement.
Does the site collect my information?
The site does not ask you to create an account. Please do not send us health details about yourself or other people. We cannot give personal advice in reply.
The site uses no analytics or cookies and has no forms. The privacy notice has the details.
What is not promised?
The site and its information are provided as is, free of charge, and may contain errors. The information is not medical, legal or insurance advice. We do not promise that it will always be available. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for loss that comes from relying on it.
Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law does not allow to be limited.
Can these terms change?
Yes. We may update them. The version on this page is the current one, and the date at the top of the page shows when we last checked it.
