The Generative Brain

Organizations

The Atlas groups organizations by role: surveillance centres, research labs, hospitals and clinics, foundations and patient groups, companies, regulators and agencies, and funders. Each entry cites the organization's own pages.

This page is the entry point to the organizations in the Atlas. An entry describes what an organization says it does, with a link to its own page. An entry is not an endorsement or a recommendation. If you are looking for support, families can start with a foundation or patient group. If you are a clinician looking for specialist advice, start with a surveillance centre or clinic.

What do some of these organizations do?

The CJD Foundation is a nonprofit that supports families affected by prion disease. It runs a HelpLine seven days a week, offers referrals, support groups and webinars, holds an annual family conference and gives research grants chosen by a scientific advisory committee. Its audience includes families, caregivers, clinicians and researchers.

The University of Edinburgh hosts the UK national reference RT-QuIC testing laboratory, which runs the spinal fluid test for clinicians, and a CJD pathology service that advises on suspected cases. For clinical advice on a suspected case, it points clinicians to the National Prion Clinic.

The National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center is part of the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.

How do I find regulators and funders?

Rules and the bodies that apply them are on Regulations. Money for research is on Funding programs. Studies from these groups are on Key papers. Unfamiliar terms are defined in the Glossary. The Atlas home lists the other sections.
